Jo Gniel (she/her) is a highly experienced relationship counsellor and ICEEFT certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) and supervisor training. As the founder of landscape of life, Jo is dedicated to building human connection, helping individuals, couples, and families create healthier relationships and well-being in all aspects of life


As a trained teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion (UCSD)  Jo offers a unique, compassionate approach to supporting clients in creating meaningful, fulfilling relationships in every area of life.


Commitment to excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Jo is passionate about advancing the practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). She is a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT), was a founding member of the Melbourne Community for Emotionally Focused Therapy (MCEFT) and is active in the Australian EFT community.

 

As an EFT supervisor in training Jo's interests include the impact of trauma, neurodivergence, gender inequality and structural inequality on attachment strategies in relationships. Jo is comfortable with complexity and honouring the diversity of human experience to ensure individuals, couples, and families have a sense of love and belonging and thrive. 


Leadership in Training and Research

Jo has designed and delivered EFT training programs for allied health professionals and therapists through MCEFT and other organizations. Her contributions to research include integrating EFT principles to support couples after cancer treatment in collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Jo has also co-developed resources for couples coping with a breast cancer diagnosis, in partnership with Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Not so long ago, Jo could be found walking the boards of a global giant as an innovation and change leader. Since leaving the theatre of corporate life Jo has been driven by a desire to have a positive impact on the lives of others, contributing her business knowledge, evidence based approaches to relationships and wellbeing and a passion to collaborate more widely to create a safer, more inclusive world.


In organisational contexts Jo works with leaders interested in creating social impact through ethical and inclusive policies, processes and culture to humanise workplaces. Jo supervises and coaches leaders with a desire to develop more compassionate leadership, to better understand themselves, others, and their relationships while navigating the challenges of life and the world of work.

Beyond her academic qualifications in Bio-Medical Science, Counselling and Psychology, Jo’s professional toolkit includes extensive professional development in the field of couples and family relationships, from the Bouverie Centre, Williams Road Family Therapy, Stepfamilies Australia, Relationships Australia and the Australian Psychological Society. Jo also trained in Mindful Self Compassion with the University of California San Diego.

In person

IN PERSON sessions for Relationship Counselling Services are available in Glen Iris, Melbourne—near Camberwell, Malvern, Chadstone, and Surrey Hills. Conveniently located off the Monash Freeway, in-person support offers a grounded space for connection and healing.

Online

ONLINE relationship counselling makes it possible to access therapy from anywhere in Australia, the US (after hours), or globally. Sessions are held over secure Zoom, offering flexibility and emotional safety in your own space.

Retreats

RETREATS provide immersive experiences—either offsite or online—for individuals, couples, or professional teams. They offer space to recharge, reconnect, and grow through self-reflection and guided therapeutic tools.

Keynotes

KEYNOTES are available for professional events and community organisations. Topics include Mindful Self-Compassion, Courageous Conversations, Emotionally Intelligent Leadership, and building wellbeing through connection.
